High Court to Review Assisted Suicide Law

Yahoo! News - High Court to Review Assisted Suicide Law

The Supreme Court will consider whether or not to repeal the only assisted suicide law in America. The law is a state law for Oregon called the Death with Dignity Act which allows doctors to help people with terminal diseases to end their lives without threat of prosecution. The law was passed in 1998 by the voters of Oregon and has helped 170 people end their lives.

The appeal was filed last year by a certain Attorney General John Ashcroft who insisted that doctors should help heal patients, not kill them. The case will be held in October.

Republicans are always complaining about "States Rights" issues, well the state or Oregon has spoken and passed this law, which Ashcroft, because of his religious views, wants to be repealed.
